LESSONS

The heart of our work at Pleasant Heights is teaching and coaching a combination of balanced seat riding, classical dressage and cross training fitness.  We implement non-forceful training tactics as well as positive reinforcement to achieve great communication between horse and rider and instructor.

BEGINNER RIDING

We specialize in working with new riders. For pre-adolescent and adolescent riders, lessons provide an excellent after school alternative to traditional extracurricular activities. And adults can fulfill their childhood dreams of being comfortable on horseback and discover a new way to get fit. Our goals are to familiarize beginners with the horses and equipment, teach them to prepare horses for riding, and instruct them in balanced riding and safety. We believe that by the time our beginning riders move on to the intermediate level, they have gained confidence and have come to see the horse as a partner.

INTERMEDIATE RIDING

Our intermediate riders begin to focus on specific skills, such as dressage, eventing, jumping or more advanced recreational skills. The goal for these riders is the fulfillment of achievement related to competition and independent recreation. So whether it is winning ribbons or enjoying independent trail rides, this is where riders become self-sufficient and learn to work in harmony with horses.

ADVANCED RIDING

Our senior instructor has a great appreciation for competition. Advanced riders are well served by her passion and experience. These riders benefit from personal attention and preparation for competition as well as transportation to and coaching at competition sites.

Specifically, advanced riders concentrate on their individual development needs.  We troubleshoot problems, working through necessary corrections and improvements, by means of non-forceful communication and positive reinforcement.

CLINICS

Pleasant Heights trainers and students participate in clinics both on-site and around the region. Clinics are an excellent way for trainers to get ongoing professional development and for riders to get focused attention in specific areas. We have hosted Olympic competitors and internationally known clinicians such as Robert Dover, Kim Walnes and Anke Heller.

Our students come and stay for many years. They show tremendous growth and go on to be very successful when they choose to compete. The benefits of training at Pleasant Heights Farm are important beyond the equestrian world.
